Caring For Your Windows and Doors

While many of us are working from home during this time, looking longingly out of our windows and doors, we can’t help but notice the dirt and grime build up on the glass. With extra time on our hands, we have been receiving many requests on tips to best clean the glass and remove the screens. We wanted to provide you with the following care and maintenance tips (using items from your pantry) to help ensure your windows and doors will perform at their best while looking great!

Removing & Reinstalling Window and Patio Doors Screens

The screens can easily be removed and reinstalled for cleaning. Depending on the window opening style our screens have tabs, springs and releases that keep the screens in place and allow you to remove with ease – these parts must be handled carefully to avoid snapping and breaking. You should never need to use force to remove or re-install the screens. Fore more info on screens see our blog post: Removing Screens or for step by step instructions on each type of window opening please refer to our How To YouTube Videos:

Now that your screens are removed they can be gently cleaned by placing them on a flat surface. Use only mild soap, water, and a soft brush when cleaning your screens. When finished, rinse with clear water and wipe dry.

Frame Cleaning

The vinyl frames also benefit from some TLC! In a bowl or bucket create the cleaner using mild, nonabrasive soap and warm water. Wash your window and door frames using mild, nonabrasive soap mixed with warm water (never use acidic cleaners on the vinyl because they might cause permanent damage to the frame finish). Using a sponge, shammy or soft bristled brush gently scrub your window and door frames to lift the dirt. Cleanse your sponge with clear warm water to rinse away the dirt and soap mixture. Wipe dry when finished with a lint free-free cloth.

Caring For Your Glass

This is the BEST and most natural way to clean your windows:

  • Mix 2 cups of hot water with 1/4 cup of vinegar and a tablespoon of cornstarch
  • Use newspaper to wipe the windows, as it doesn’t leave lint behind
